A TELEVISION ENTERTAINMENT SPECIAL

HONORING LATINOS IN AMERICAN ENTERTAINMENT

Celebrity, Community, Causes, Commitment

AWARDS AND TRIBUTES SELECTIONS

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States.  For 45 years, NCLR has been promoting the advancement of Latino families in this country, creating opportunities and opening doors.  The NCLR ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards presentation is an integral part of that mission:  a national prime-time television network entertainment special with a cause—to show how diversity strengthens our country and how inclusion strengthens the American entertainment industry.

The 2013 NCLR ALMA Awards, in partnership with MSNBC and mun2, will broadcast the show live for the first time since its creation.  The telecast will take place during National Hispanic Heritage Month serving as a national recognition of our media and entertainment influencers and the communities and causes they are committed to.  The ALMA Awards is quite unique as the only nationally broadcast English-language show recognizing the accomplishments of Latinos in American entertainment and media.

The 2013 NCLR ALMA Awards live telecast will celebrate the contributions of Latinos in the entertainment industry with a look back at this year’s outstanding accomplishments; special awards presentations to highlight individual achievements; tributes to honor career excellence, cultural impact, and service and commitment to national and international social causes and philanthropy; and, inspiring music performances and acts.

This year, the NCLR ALMA Awards production will not have an external submission process due to a short planning window. Individuals and English-language programs and projects included in video packages and music performances and acts will be determined by the producers of the show.  Special award recipients and tributes will be selected by the NCLR ALMA Awards staff in consultation with the network and show producers. Recipients will be considered for outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry and sports; commercial U.S. box office ranking, English-language Nielsen ratings and Billboard chart accomplishments, media/social media prominence and/or the impact of the program, project, role, or performance; and, service and commitment to national and international social causes and philanthropy between July 7, 2012 to September 15, 2013.
